Posting Policies

Some good starting questions to help guide you are…

How does this event benefit creatives? How does this service benefit them? Would this audience attend? Pay to attend? What is the deadline to apply or register? How much does it it cost?

POSTING FUNDING / JOBS / OPPORTUNITIES: Coffee + Creatives is designed to connect creative people to resources, feedback, and funding. You are welcome to share an event, workshop, grant or loan program, or other resource with the group, but we ask that you clearly label it and explain in direct terms explain how it might be valuable to them.

For example:

[FUNDING: XYZ creative accelerator applications are now open]

Drop by www.webaddress.com to learn more about the application process, there is a $25k prize to the top two companies, and the deadline is X date. Feel free to comment here with questions or follow-up via Y contact information.

[RESOURCE: Hourly Rate Calculator for freelancers]

Good way for designers, writers etc. who do contract work to check their expenses and set hourly rates…tag in someone who you know who might be able to use this!

Note: Events and links without context will be deleted. No exceptions.

Some additional guidelines to keep in mind

Below are guidelines, which we’ve crafted with feedback from hundreds of group members from 2016-18.

  1. NO UNPAID INTERNSHIPS/JOBS/GIGS. Combinations of trade, donations in kind for tax purposes etc. are acceptable. If you post something or comment with an opportunity without noting the value, we will ask you to add that in. We reserve the right to delete and/or remove content that does not follow this specific policy.
  2. REQUESTING FEEDBACK: We encourage you to share your website, portfolio, or problem you are working on for feedback (you can do this via the meetup group or the Facebook group). Please be as specific as possible about what questions you’d like answered, and use the format under section A above e.g. [FEEDBACK REQUESTED: Launched new XYZ artist name website] and so on.
  3. FREQUENCY: Please limit posts about a specific event, resource, your website, set of creative work, etc. to twice per month at most. If you post beyond that a moderator may ask you to remove it, and if there are repeated problems we may ask you to leave the group.
  4. BE RESPECTFUL: People come to Coffee + Creatives to share jobs, ask for advice, and seek out a useful space for their needs as creative people. When interacting with other members, please treat them with respect and understand that you are part of a conversation. Disagreement is to be expected but we ask that you refrain from using abusive language, and if someone is using abusive language in a post/comment, instead of engaging the person directly, please message one of the community managers.

Community managers work with the community closely to ensure that respect is maintained.

Failure to respect these rules will result in:

  • First time – Deletion of harmful post/comments, warning through private message.
  • Second time – Deletion of harmful post/comments, expulsion from the group. Community manager decisions are final.

Promotional content / Crowdfunding / Multilevel Marketing / SPAM

While we welcome posts / stories from anyone, this is not a space for advertising, promotion, crowdfunding, multi-level marketing, or spam.

We also recognize that people enjoy sharing their own and others’ businesses / projects / creative work, but ask that you keep in mind this is a working group first and foremost, aimed at helping people grow their ideas, practice, and/or business.

And, if you are new to the group, we especially encourage you to introduce yourself and share your work! This helps the community leads and people in the group know when / where to tag you in as relevant jobs / gigs /opportunities pop up.

Service providers (workshops, training, products/creative services of any kind) should read and follow the Creative Service Provider Guidelines.
